Overall Fonus has been good. The app loads quickly, easy to navigate, and recent updates allow you to see how much data is left and ability to change your voicemail greeting. A few things that make the service limiting is some companies don’t send two-step authorization verification codes to viop services, occasional dropped calls, and inability to block or unblock calls. One test will be using the service outside of Canada and make calls, use data and texting in another country, plus the ability to call and text back to Canada and the United States. A great value for the service!
Update June 2024. Used service outside Canada last winter and it worked great. Only had issues with connecting to networks twice for very short periods. One occasion had to manually select another service provider to connect to cellular, otherwise worked better than imagined. Still a great value for money. Highly recommended.

The app is easy to use. Ported my number from Freedom in about 4 BDs. Network is automatically connected to either Bell or Rogers mostly on 5G in downtown Toronto. Just found out I can customize greeting in the voicemail. Nice service. Customer service responded in less than 15 seconds on live chats and emails. No issues with calls and text message including bank authentication code. Highly recommended.
It even works with my smart watch receiving calls via app. Nice.

Fonus has been great. I can choose the best network depending on my location. 5 G data is included when available. Price is very reasonable. The ability to travel to 55 counties and still have service covered under my plan is very good. Quality of the VOIP phone app is great.

The Fonus app is not always intuitive. Some features common to other providers just aren't available and others don't work well....yet. For the most part it works OK, but is not stellar. What is stellar is the customer service, I've only had one chat contact who seemed rather petulant.....honest, if I was an expert in navigating the apps and features I wouldn't be contacting them so often but my abilities are maybe a small step above novice and I need the help. 3 stars for the actual system, 5 stars for the customer service led to selecting 4 overall.

Most recently "some" phone numbers won't answer, and yield a "network error" message after 10 rings. So far after 2 months, no resolution from Fonus.
I have been generally happy for the past 2 years using it as my only phone number for Worldwide travels, using voice, data and SMS.

I switched to Fonus from my local provider because I travel a lot for work and roaming charges or having to buy a separate e-sim or regular sim is a pain. The plan gives me data coverage no matter where I travel and costs about the same as a less capable plan from my local provider. Their support in porting my number and getting everything set up has been amazing. My previous provider provided NO live agent support. Highly recommend Fonus.

Generally satisfied with the service, and certainly the price. A few downsides
- Many institutions (eg. Banks) won't text one-time authorizations to a VOIP number. This is a significant drawback for me
- The 'new' App doesn't support multi-party message threads. You can Send to multiple people, but afterwards each reply is P2P.
- the 'automatic' carrier switching basically doesn't work when moving between Canada and the U.S. (don't know how it works in other countries.
It's still a good value for the low price.
